I was born and raised on the Isle of Man, with the closest I came to living anywhere else was the opportunity to go to university following secondary school. So, despite being very comfortable with my surroundings, I do like to venture out of my comfort zone.
In 2017, I joined an Aikido school (a Japanese martial art), and since then I have become a licensed coach by the BAA to teach, earned my first-grade black belt (Shodan) & become a member of staff that helps run the club. I’ve also previously been a part of a committee to run an airsoft club on the island (both treasurer & Chairman). It seems when I find something I enjoy, I get 100% involved.
I set myself a goal before my 30th birthday to complete a half marathon (possibly an early midlife crisis?) – this has manifested itself into completing multiple half marathons, large scale cycling & endurance walking events. My new goal is to complete a triathlon & the parish walk before I turn 35 – both I never thought I would consider in my 20’s.
Although driven to succeed with personal & professional goals, one of the most important things for me is to enjoy what you do. Creating strong relationships with friends & colleagues is the reason I have been able to meet my own personal expectations. Having the support from those around me is key to any new venture I start – be at work or in any new challenge I set myself.
