  • In addition to the above roles, I worked as a Best interest assessor and my role involved:
  • Undertaking the Mental Capacity Act Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards (MCA DOLS) assessment to provide protection for vulnerable people who are accommodated in hospitals or care homes in circumstances that amount to a deprivation of their liberty and who lack the capacity to consent to the care or treatment they need.
  • The role involved working in accordance with the statutory requirements set out in the DOLS Code of Practice, which has legal standing.
  • As a Best Interest Assessor, I was responsible for making informed, independent best interest decisions within the context of a DOLS assessment.
  • Balancing an individual’s right to autonomy and self-determination with their right to safety and respond proportionately.
  • The ability to effectively assess risk in complex situations and use analysis to make proportionate decisions.
  • Being able to effectively communicate key and complex information to all levels of staff, ensuring that this information is understood.
  • Being able to deal with sensitive issues in difficult situations and negotiating the best way to support individuals in a way which is less intrusive to their lives but protects them from harm.

  • I joined Reed employment agency and worked on the Adult social work team in Manchester, Tameside and Trafford city councils:
  • My role included, completing Care Act assessments for older people and younger adults with physical and mental health problems and arranging eligible services to meet their identified care and support needs.
  • Using the strength-based approach to work directly with adults, their families and carers to identify their capabilities and help enhance their problem-solving skills whilst identifying and help them manage risks.
  • Assessing people in hospital who are deemed to have care & support needs and facilitating their timely discharge from hospital.
  • Completing required documents including Strength-based assessments and Support plans, outlining individuals care and support needs and the support required to meet these.
  • Creating support plans that are tailored to the individual’s care and support needs and exploring different ways to meet services including, cash individualised budgets, homecare support and placing individuals in 24-hour care placement, based on the outcomes of the assessments.
  • Completing review/re-assessment of individual’s needs, to ensure the care in place continues to meet individuals’ needs.
  • Undertaking mental capacity assessments where there is cause to suspect someone lacks capacity and chair Best interests meeting in line with the principles of the Best Interest process.
  • I have undertaken numerous Safeguarding investigations to manage risks and protect vulnerable adults in accordance to section 42 enquiries.
  • I carried a caseload of citizens with complex care needs and I make autonomous decisions regarding the level of intervention required, as well as seek guidance from team manager when necessary.
  • I have completed training in Liquid logic system and my confidence in using this system has improved. I have supported less experienced colleagues and worked jointly with other professionals including GPs, OTs, physiotherapists, district nurses, housing services etc.
  • Providing direct support for service users and their families in accordance with statutory responsibilities and local and national policies and procedures in order to secure positive outcomes for the individuals.

  • Worked as a community social worker in various Integrated care teams for Salford city council. My role as an adult social worker involved:
  • Undertaking direct work with adults, older people, and their families and carers, using a strength-based approach to assess for eligible social care needs, whilst problem solving and completing appropriate risk assessments to ensure a safeguarding approach is taken.
  • Ensuring that older people and younger adults with a disability or vulnerability, eligible for social care receive both an assessment and any subsequent support necessary to meet their identified social care needs. The main tasks were:

  • Undertake the review/re-assessment of individual needs, instigating the calculation of a revised indicative budget if needs have changed.
  • Ensuring that the principles of the Care Act 2014 and the Mental Capacity Act 2005 are acted upon, in line with the Social Work Standards of Proficiency, as outlined by the HCPC.
