  • Developed new store location in Strand St from ground up by recruiting and training efficient team, dealing with contractors working on the new building, liaising with head office and landlords, laying out and stocking the store, arranging press launch etc. Then added a second store ten years later at the sea terminal which I also have responsibility for.
  • I evaluate performance data to improve operations, target current business conditions and forecast needs on a daily basis.
  • I coach team members in product specifications, sales incentives and selling techniques, significantly increasing customer satisfaction. I have a team of 20 across the two stores.
  • As brand ambassador for the company on the island I expect excellent standards of customer service and always get involved personally on the rare occasions that things go wrong to ensure the customer is satisfied and any learning opportunities for myself and the team are not missed.
  • Am responsible for all aspects of staff recruitment, selection and training, staff scheduling and payroll, legal and company policy, promotional compliance, stock management, customer satisfaction and compliance with local regulations such as IOM Covid rules. My stores were regarded as essential retailers during the recent lockdowns and traded throughout.
  • My stores have been regular winners of in company awards such as Store of the year (nominated 4 times, runner up twice, won in 2016) I won Store Manager of the year in 2019 having been regional winner or runner up on 3 other occasions in my current role.

Joined W H Smith Richmond branch straight from school as a Sales Assistant and quickly entered the management training scheme. Moved around London to different stores in a variety of junior management or project roles such as the implementation of new EPOS systems to the stores and trainer at the company's own training college in Oxfordshire. Became manager of my first store in Peckham in 1991 and then managed progressively larger stores around London until deciding to apply to set up and run the new IOM store in 2000.
